Parking permits (blue badge)
The Blue Badge scheme provides an international arrangement of parking concessions for people who are disabled or who have severe walking difficulties and who travel either as drivers or passengers.
The scheme also applies to registered blind people, and people with very severe upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn a steering wheel by hand. The scheme is intended to allow badge holders to park close to their destination.
The process for applying for the new Blue badge is exactly the same as under the Orange Badge system. The scheme is managed by Social Services on behalf of the Department for Transport.
